Benefits of Secondhand Trading

1. I do a lot of secondhand trading. I’m usually too busy on weekdays, but I’ll do as many as four or five transactions on weekends.
나는 중고 거래를 많이 한다. 평일에는 보통 너무 바빠서 못하지만 주말에는 많으면 네댓 개씩 거래를 한다.

2. I’m mostly a seller, and so far I’ve sold around 200 items.
나는 주로 파는 쪽인데, 지금까지 200개 정도의 물건을 팔아 치웠다.

3. Making money by selling things I don’t use anymore at home is a lot of fun.
집안의 더 이상 사용하지 않는 물건들을 팔아서 돈을 버는 것이 너무나 재미있다.

4. As I cleared out so many items, I started thinking, “If I was going to sell this anyway, why did I buy it in the first place?”
그렇게 많은 물건들을 처분하면서 “어차피 팔 건데 애초에 내가 왜 샀지?” 하는 생각이 들었다.

5. If I am selling unused items, that means they were unnecessary purchases to begin with.
사용하지 않는 물건을 파는 것이니 처음부터 불필요한 소비였던 셈이다.

6. So now, before I buy anything, I ask myself several times, “Do I really need this?”
그래서 지금은 물건을 사기 전에 “정말 필요한가?“를 여러 번 자문한다.

7. As a result, I’ve naturally become less greedy and I’ve been able to save more money.
그러다 보니 자연스레 욕심이 줄고 돈을 더 아낄 수 있게 되었다.

8. When I look around my home, it feels more open after getting rid of the clutter.
집안을 둘러보면 불필요한 것들이 사라져서 더 넓어진 느낌이다.

9. That makes it feel like my chest has been cleared out too.
그래서인지 내 가슴 속까지 뻥 뚫린 듯한 기분이 든다.

B: Yes, I do. On weekends, I really enjoy selling things I don't use.
A: Isn't it a bit of a hassle to go out and meet people for the transactions?
B: It can be, but I get to declutter my home and make some money.
A: That's a great habit. It cuts down on waste, too.
B: That's right. It also makes me think twice before buying anything new.

A: 낭비도 줄이는 좋은 습관이네요.
B: 맞아요. 새 물건을 살 때도 한 번 더 생각하게 돼요.
