1. I work at an energy company. With such unpredictable weather lately, everyone at my company has been on edge.
나는 에너지 회사에서 일을 한다. 요즘 날씨가 오락가락해서 우리 회사 사람들은 걱정이 많다.

● be on edge: 초조하다, 걱정이 많다
• Everyone at my company has been on edge.
(우리 회사 사람들은 요즘 걱정이 많다.)

(나는 1주일 내내 걱정이 너무 많았다.)

2. That’s because renewable energy sources like solar power have become much more common. When it rains or the sky is cloudy, power generation often falls short of the average.
왜냐하면 요즘은 태양광 발전 같은 신재생 에너지원이 훨씬 더 많아져서 비가 오거나 날이 흐리면 발전량이 평균치에 못 미치기 때문이다.

● become much more common: 훨씬 많이 보편화되다
• Renewable energy sources like solar power have become much more common.
(태양광 발전 같은 신재생 에너지원이 훨씬 더 많아졌다.)
• Taking selfies has become much more common since then.

3. When that happens, the power supply can become unstable. So, whenever the weather turns bad, our company goes on high alert in case of a possible blackout.
그렇게 되면 전력 수급이 불안정해질 수 있다. 이러한 문제들로 인해 날씨가 안 좋을 때면 우리 회사는 혹시 모를 정전에 대비해 비상 경계 태세에 돌입한다.

4. We might have to head out at a moment’s notice.
바로바로 출동을 해야 할 수도 있기 때문이다.

5. Someday, as technology advances, I’m sure we’ll find ways to overcome this kind of intermittent demand.
언젠가는 기술이 발전하여 이러한 간헐적인 수요 문제를 극복할 방법을 찾게 될 것이라 확신한다.

6. I hope the day comes when our employees can finally relax, even on rainy or cloudy days.
우리 회사 직원들도 이젠 비가 오거나 날이 흐릴 때에도 마음 편히 쉴 수 있는 그런 날이 오면 좋겠다.

A: 그러면 날씨가 안 좋은 날에는 어떻게 해요?
B: 모두가 비상 대기하며 내내 경계 태세를 유지해야 해요.
