250908(M) Gimbap

 

I have always had a soft spot for gimbap.

저는 항상 김밥을 좋아했다.

When I was a kid, it was a special treat that my mom only made on picnic days or for special occasions.

어렸을 때, 김밥은 엄마가 소풍 가는날이나 특별한 날에만 만들어 주시는 별미였다.

Even when I was a student and often skipped breakfast, I always grabbed a bite if my mom made gimbap.

학생 때 아침을 자주 거르면서도, 엄마가 김밥을 만들어 두시면 꼭 챙겨 먹었다.

 

* have a soft spot for sb/sth : ~을 좋아하다. ~에 약하다

  - I have a soft spot for children.

  - She's always had a soft spot for you.

 

* often skip breakfas : 아침 식사를 자주 거르다

  - when I was a student, and often skipped breakfas

  - I often skip breakfast on Mondays

  

* grab a bite : (간단히)먹다

  - I always grabbed a bite if my mom made gimbap

  - Let's grab a bite sometime.

  - In addition to the coffee, it's a good place to grab a bite

 

 

Now that I'm a homemaker, I make gimbap myself and share it with my family.

이제는 주부가 되어 직접 김밥을 만들어 가족들과 나눠 먹는다.

But as the kids have gotten older, they don't seem to like my gimbap as much.

하지만 아이들이 크면서 제 김밥을 예전만큼 좋아하지 않는 것 같다.

There are so many different types of gimbap these days, and some places tailor them to suit kids' tastes.

요즘에는 워낙 다양한 종류의 김밥이 있고, 어떤 곳은 아이들 입맛에 맞춰 만들기도 하니까.

 

* tailor : (특정한 목적/사람 등에) 맞추다[조정하다]

 

This year, I discovered a whole new world of gimbap.

올해, 나는 완전히 새로운 김밥의 세계를 발견했다.

All you need are carrots, eggs, and pickled radish.

당근, 계란, 단무지만 있으면 된다.

It's a great way to eat more carrots, which is a big plus.

당근을 더 많이 먹을 수 있는 좋은 방법이라는 큰 장점도 있다.

 

* pickled radish : 단무지

* a big plus : 큰 장점

  - The great battery life is a big plus.

  - The lower price is a big plus, but that's not why I bought it.

 

 

My son never used to eat carrots, but even he loves this version, and he's started enjoying my homemade gimbap again.

원래 당근을 절대 먹지 않던 아들인데도 이 김밥은 아주 좋아해서, 다시 내가 만든 김밥을 맛있게 먹기 시작했다.
