Visiting Dokdo

1. In September 2019, my husband and I took a trip to Dokdo.

2. We were filled with anticipation as we boarded a ferry headed for Ulleungdo from the Pohang passenger terminal.
설레는 마음을 안고 포항 여객선 터미널에서 울릉도로 향하는 배에 몸을 실었다.

예상 시간을 훨씬 초과하여 네 시간이 넘게 걸려 마침내 울릉도에 도착했다.

5. Then we had to transfer to another boat to Dokdo, which took another hour and a half.

6. Since Dokdo doesn’t have a dock, we were told we couldn’t land if the waves are too rough.
독도는 선착장이 따로 없어서 파도가 너무 높으면 접안을 할 수 없다고 했다.

7. Thankfully, the waves suddenly calmed down and we were allowed to land.
다행히 근처에 도착할 때쯤 갑자기 파도가 잠잠해져서 입도할 수 있었다.

8. I felt a lump in my throat when I saw the soldiers stationed on Dokdo.
독도 수비대 군인들을 본 순간 나는 울컥 목이 메었다.
