1. Being a good driver isn’t just about getting to your destination quickly. It’s about getting there safely.
 운전을 잘한다는 것은 목적지까지 빨리 가는 게 아니라 목적지에 안전하게 도착하는 것이다.

 - We finally got to our destination after a long drive.
  (긴 운전 끝에 우리는 마침내 목적지에 도착했다.)
 - Make sure you get to your destination safely.
  (안전하게 목적지에 도착하도록 해라.)

2. I want to share three things I’ve learned from my experience behind the wheel.
 지금까지 내가 운전하면서 체득한 것을 세 가지만 말해 보려고 한다.

● behind the wheel: 운전을 하는
 - I always listen to music when I am behind the wheel.
  (나는 운전을 할 때 항상 음악을 듣는다.)
 - I try not to sleep, even when I’m not behind the wheel.
  (내가 운전대를 잡지 않더라도 잠들지는 않으려고 한다.)

3. First, learn to use your brakes well.
 첫째, 브레이크 잘 밟기이다.

4. Just braking properly can greatly reduce the risk of getting into an accident.
 브레이크만 잘 밟아도 사고 날 위험이 매우 줄어든다.

 - Smoking increases the risk of lung cancer.

 - Proper safety gear reduces the risk of injury.

5. It might sound obvious, but I really think it’s the most basic part of safe driving.
 당연한 이야기처럼 들리겠지만, 정말 안전 운전의 가장 기본이라고 생각한다.

 둘째, 결정을 내렸으면 주저하지 말자.

7. When you merge into a lane, watch your side mirror for a gap between you and the other car. When the timing is right, make up your mind and change lanes quickly.
 끼어들기를 할 때는 사이드 미러로 상대 차와의 간격이 벌어지는 순간을 잘 캐치해, 들어가기로 마음먹었다면 재빨리 차선을 변경해야 한다.

● merge into a lane: 차선에 합류하다
 - Be careful when you merge into a lane on the highway.
  (고속도로에서 차선에 합류할 때는 주의해라.)
 - She merged into the lane without signaling.
  (그녀는 신호도 없이 차선에 합류했다.)

● when the timing is right: 타이밍이 맞으면
 - When the timing is right, change lanes quickly.
  (적절한 타이밍이 오면 재빨리 차선을 변경해라.)
 - You need to be prepared to act when the timing is right.
  (타이밍이 맞으면 곧바로 행동할 수 있도록 준비해야 한다.)
 - I turned off the heat when the timing was right.
  (나는 타이밍을 잘 캐치해서 불을 껐다.)

● make up one’s mind: 마음을 먹다
 - If you have made up your mind, do it quickly.
  (마음을 먹었다면 재빨리 행동해라.)
 - I haven’t made up my mind yet.
  (나는 아직 결정을 내리지 못했다.)
 - Make up your mind already!
  (빨리 좀 결정을 해!)

8. Third, never trust the other driver.
 셋째, 상대편 차를 절대 믿지 마라.

9. Any car can suddenly cut in, so you have to drive defensively.
 어느 차량이든 갑자기 들어올 수 있으니 방어 운전을 해야 한다.

 - New drivers are taught to drive defensively to avoid accidents.
  (신규 운전자들은 사고를 피하기 위해 방어 운전을 배우게 된다.)
 - Always drive defensively when traffic is heavy.

10. Also, don’t be afraid to use your horn. After all, it’s there to protect you.
 더불어, 경적은 나를 지키기 위해 있는 것이니, 경적 울리는 것을 부담스러워 하지 말자.

B: How long have you been driving now?
A: It's been about three months.
B: Then yeah, it sounds like you're ready.
A: originally planned to keep it on for six months, but driving feels a lot more comfortable now.
B: Then you should be fine. Everyone gets the hang of it at their own pace,

B: 운전한 지 얼마나 되셨죠?

B: 그럼 충분할 것 같네요.
A: 당초 계획은 6개월 정도 붙이려 했는데, 이제는 운전이 많이 편해졌어요
B: 그럼 괜찮을 거예요. 사람에 따라 적응하는 기간이 다 달라요
