I have a dream

1. A dream holds a special meaning for everyone.
 모든 사람에게 꿈은 중요한 의미를 담고 있다.

2. So then, what kind of dream do I have? What is my dream?
 그렇다면 나는 어떤 꿈을 가지고 있으며, 내 꿈은 무엇일까?

3. When I was in grade school, I dreamed of becoming a teacher.
 나는 초등학교에 다닐 때 선생님이 되기를 꿈꾸었다.

4. But as I went through college, I realized I wasn't quite sure what my true dream was.
 그러나 대학을 다니면서 나는 내 진정한 꿈이 무엇인지 모른다는 것을 깨달았다.

 

● not quite sure: 확실치 않은
 - I wasn't quite sure what my true dream was.
  (나는 내 진정한 꿈이 무엇인지 잘 몰랐다.)
 - I'm not quite sure what I did wrong.
  (내가 뭘 잘못한 건지 잘 모르겠다.)
 - If you're not quite sure where to go, ask someone for help.
  (어디로 가야할지 모르겠으면 누군가에게 도움을 청해.)

5. But now, my dream isn't so complicated.
 이제 나의 꿈은 그렇게 복잡한 것이 아니다.

6. My dream now is to live in a way that honors myself and my happiness.
 지금의 나에게 꿈은 나 자신을 사랑하고 나의 행복을 추구하는 방식으로 살아가는 것이다.

 

● honor oneself: 자신을 존중하다
 - You should learn to honor yourself and your values.
  (당신은 자신과 자신의 가치를 존중하는 법을 배워야 한다.)

7. It might not sound like much, but this simple belief is the most important part of my life.
 비록 거창하지는 않지만, 이 소박한 믿음은 내 인생의 가장 중요한 부분이다.

  (비록 거창하지는 않지만, 이 소박한 믿음은 내 인생의 가장 중요한 부분이다.)
 - That amount may not sound like much now.
  (지금 기준으로는 그 금액이 별것 아닌 것처럼 들릴 수도 있다.)
 - It doesn't sound like much, but it meant a lot to me.
  (별것 아닌 것처럼 들리지만, 내게는 의미가 컸다.)

8. To hold onto that dream, and to live without regrets, I'm going to do my best each day.
 나는 그 꿈을 유지하기 위해, 그리고 지금 이 시간을 후회하지 않기 위해 매일 최선을 다해 살 것이다.

 - I'm going to do my best each day.

A: happened to come across an old diary from when I was a kid.

B: Oh, really? What kind of things did you write in it?

A: I wrote a lot about my dreams and what I wanted to be when I grew up.

B: I see.

A: I realized that my dream kept changing all the time.

B: So, have you achieved your dream?

​A: 어쩌다 어렸을 때 쓴 옛 일기장을 보게 되었어요.

B: 아, 정말이요? 어떤 내용이 써 있던가요?

A: 장래 희망과 꿈에 대한 이야기를 많이 써 놓았더라고요.

B: 그랬군요

A: 보니까 꿈이 계속 바뀌었더라고요
